It’s getting closer!!!

In case you’re wondering why I haven’t posted new photos in ages, I’m waiting.  I’m waiting for Mama Love to be published, which means waiting to launch the Kickstarter campaign, which means waiting to finish the Kickstarter video.  Also, I’ve been waiting to find just the right caregiver to help with my parents so I could work a little more.  After many, many tryouts, I’m happy to say we found a really great person a few weeks ago so all systems are GO! The last bits for the video were recorded earlier this month.  I hope to launch the Kickstarter campaign in December and go to press in February.  I’m excited!!!

I want to send a very powerful message to people of color about the beauty of the love between mother and child. I think if there were more images of our people embracing and “loving on” our children, we could potentially change some of the negative dynamics that exist in our communities.
As a breastfeeding mother and major advocate for breastfeeding in the African American community, I have seen first hand the power and benefits of physical closeness to both mother and baby.

It’s National Breastfeeding Month. Can you encourage and support one person to breastfeed?

I wonder how it must feel to be loved by a mother, to say I want my mommy and get to have her, to say mommy I love you and to hear her say it back and feel that she loves you more than anything or anyone in the world. I love giving that feeling to my son. He will never have to wonder.

Mama Love on Wild River Review

Blogging is difficult for me.  Primarily because I spend more time reading other blogs instead of posting on my own.  One of my diversions is Wild River Review.  They’re featuring Mama Love this month (!!!!!!) so I really need to get on the ball and update my website, post events, book updates and more photos.   Click here to go there.

Tomorrow I’ll tell you about an exhibit I’m in next month.  I meant to mention is sooner but I got caught up reading the curators blog.

Perhaps breast feeding will become normal … like it used to be before purveyors of baby formula convinced the masses that it’s indecent.

I was on my way to work September

I was on my way to work September 2004 when I felt faint and started bleeding. It was the beginning stage of a miscarriage. The doctors were amazed that despite how much blood I lost, they still found a heartbeat. A STRONG one! I was told to rest and to keep my feet up. I prayed and was blessed with a healthy 9 lb, 9 oz. boy on April 20th. My experience as a mother has been priceless and I feel so blessed to have my son.

I am overwhelmed with the flood and mix of feelings I have had since becoming a mother. I am elated, frazzled, joyful, tired, amazed and in awe. My heart has never felt so full and my life has never felt so complete. I have read about agape love but now I know what it is.

Mama love personifies the complete circle of love from a maternal aspect. It is not made up or staged but genuine expressions between mom and baby.
